Shameless plug: Any sci-fi fans? [Jan. 28th, 2009|05:47 pm]

The sci-fi society is holding its annual convention, Microcon, on the 21st and 22nd of February, in the JCR in Devonshire house. It's a proper sci-fi convention with speakers including Jasper Fforde, Richard Freeman, Nick Walters and three or four others. It starts off at 10 am on Saturday, with talks until 5 pm, and from 1 pm to 5 pm on Sunday. There's also the con dinner on Saturday, at the Bamboo Garden Chinese buffet - get in touch with us if you want to come to that. Plus a charity auction.

Hello there!

I hope this post is within group rules. If not feel free to delete.... I am researching for a PGCE (thats PostGraduate Certificate In Education), winter research project which is about how APEL  ( thats Accreditation Of Prior Experiential Learning) - is actually implemented, and used (or not) in the "real" world...

As part of that, I have cooked up a questionaire which I have posted on what is destined, hopefully to become my teaching/ PGCE journal  - something else I have to keep for the course, and I would be really grateful if you have a spare moment or two, if you could pop over and fill the survey - or the relevant bits - out. And feel free to rant if you have strong feelings on anything in it.

The link is http://community.livejournal.com/teachie_filmsy/611.html

Thank you so much!

Well, as the title says.. hi! My name is Elisa and I'm a Venice University student who is going to spend her next year in the University of Exeter as part of the Erasmus project. Well, I can see that this site is not frequently updated, but I hope that amongst you there are some current Exeter students who are so gentle as to help me with some doubts and questions I have about your university (for example what you think about the accomodations or if you suggest some university classes instead of others, and so on..). If you can help me let me know through e-mails, PMs or comments. I just can say that I can't wait to be there and meet a lot of new friends!  ^_^ Your university seems such a great place!
Thanks so much for your future help.
Wish you all a lovely week,
Ely

This is probably a bit of a long shot but it's worth asking anyway, so..

1 Housemate Wanted!

47 Monks Road, we're four girls currently in our second year looking for one person to join us in the house for our final year. It's £66 per week (£285 per month), there are double beds in every bedroom; the kitchen and one of the shower rooms have also recently been refitted. We're laid back and easy to get along with, and are just looking for that final person. If you're interested or have any questions, feel free to email me (artisfrustrated@msn.com) or call 01392 491087 and ask for Deborah or Ellie. Oh, or leave a comment here!

help? [Jan. 15th, 2007|08:34 pm]

(x-posted to basically everywhere people suggested I might be able to find help)

Hey folks,

I'm not totally sure this is allowed here but I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm an American and looking to apply to the University of Exeter's MSc in Animal Behavior. It's a little pricey for me to fly there just to check out the campus but the only information I can find online about the school and the city are tourist type things so I was hoping someone here might be able to give me a little more personal experience of the area. I'd be really thankful for any help especially if you guys could hook me up with someone who actually is in that program.

Thanks!

Care to share your computing @ Exeter stories? [Nov. 10th, 2006|10:22 am]

My name is Kaitlyn, and I'm working on a co-op placement at the University of Waterloo, mostly in the Arts Faculty Helpdesk, but also for the Information Systems and Technology department. IST is trying to keep up with students' computing needs here, and we'd like to know what you like and dislike about your school's approach.

Do you find your teachers' expectations exceed what the school can support when it comes to computing? Does your school have a required laptop program but doesn't support it? Or, do you love how well you can stay wired on your campus?

If you'd like to share your thoughts, please do so by filling out a 5-10 minute survey here:
http://arts.uwaterloo.ca/~kgholman/survey.html.

The results will only be identifiable by IP address, and it will not be used in the analysis. I will only link your school to your answers.

If you have any questions, you can email me at aco.helpdesk {at} gmail.com.

Thanks, and I hope you're having a great fall semester.

Quick plug, if I may. Science Fiction fans, listen up! [Sep. 25th, 2006|12:03 pm]
The Exeter University Community - Ayyy!

apweiler
The Science Fiction Society is showing a film in the Freddy Mercury Suite (that's downstairs in Cornwall House) tomorrow evening starting at 6 pm. If you don't know where that is, meet us at 5.45 pm outside Devonshire House and we'll take you there. We'll be showing some reasonably light Sci-Fi and feeding you free pizza (!) to go with it.

The reason I'm plugging this here is that we have, unfortunately, been left out of the Welcome Week programme, which is the main place people find out about these events. But it's still taking place, and anyone is welcome to watch, eat, and get to know the quite possibly geekiest society at this university.

(We're also going on a pub crawl on Thursday evening, to join us on that meet us outside Devonshire House (again) at 8 pm. We'll be showing you some of the easily reachable, welcoming, and hopefully geek-friendly pubs around the University.)

Also make a note of the society's main event, MicroCon, which is late in the second term of the year, and of course look out for us at the freshers' squash.
